Truck Driver Training-Introducing My Self
- Trucker at Dawn

Hello, my name is Chad and I am a rookie trucker. Paul asked me to contribute to this site some of my trials and tribulations as a new truck driver. In the weeks to come I will be blogging some of my week to week escapades. For this first post Id like to introduce you to me and give you some insight into why Im here in the first place. So here it is; I am a 31 year old son of a lifetime truck driver who finally took the opportunity to get involved myself.
Many people ask me why I did it. Money? No. To get away from the better half? No. To see the open road and enjoy the country? maybe a little but not the primary reason. Ill bet its because you get to honk the air horn? Though thats fun and all (especially where there are cows by fences) thats not it either. There is 2 reasons why I got into this. To be a major contributor to all different life styles and play an integral (though unnoticed) part of their every day needs and wants. The second reason and to me personally the most important one. I am the father to four kids of my own and 3 more kids from my girlfriend. Growing up there was no one prouder of their father than I was. My kids see the big picture they know the sacrifice involved and they know why and I can honestly say my kids are proud of their father. That is why Im out here.
I’ve worked in factories and different settings but the chrome, the road, and the smell of diesel fuel were calling me all my life, it was inevitable at some point that it would happen and now that my driving record from my 20s no longer haunts me. I decided to take the plunge. Late 2008 I began investigating schools while unemployed and came across one in Eagan, Minnesota. I did some research and some calling and found them to be reputable and State Accredited. This truck driver training school was the only private school in minnesota that could say that. This all got the ball rolling and set me on the path to the calling.
In future blogs I will continue to tell the story of getting started and than life on the road and some of the things that Ive done and been involved with since then. I will be doing this blog because I wish to help other entry level drivers learn from the trials and errors I have encountered and become the best professional they can. Also, I would like to share the fun I have on the road with you as trucking can be a fun lifestyle and profession.
Thanks For Reading this contribution to this Truck Driver Training site,
Chad Napin

How old are your kids, and don’t they miss their father? Do they ever get to come over the road with you?

Teresa, I have 4 kids 13,12, 6 (girls) and a 4 year old boy. they do miss me. I generally only have them every other weekend because of the divorce. my gf has a 6 yr old and 2 5 year olds. my two oldest came with me this summer and it was great even though it was short
